Why Stop at Mending?
Feb 26, 2024I can see this is going to get out of hand!š¤ I simply LOVE the look of the cotton sashiko thread on denim and am now looking for ANYWHERE that I can add it.
I've been asked if visible mending can be done with regular 6-strand embroidery floss or perle cotton, and of course it is possible, but when stitching on denim, nothing compares to stitching with real sashiko thread. The cotton thread is smooth and has less twist than other embroidery threads. It is specially made by spinning longer cotton fibres, creating a very strong, smooth thread. I like using perle cotton to add interesting colours and accents, but to highlight the beauty of the sashiko patterns, I think this natural cotton thread is best!
I am honoured to be teaching a Visible Mending class for the Embroiderer's Association of Canada in May 2025 at their Annual Seminar in Calgary, Alberta! A one-day course that will be jam-packed full of happy stitching. We are also planning to run this workshop as a virtual class following the Conference...Stay tuned for details on when registration opens.
