Paint the Sky
Jan 02, 2024Many of my fabric landscapes are inspired by the sky fabric, so I like to have a number of painted skies on hand to choose from. Something about beginning a new year, or maybe just having time over the holidays to sort through my fabric drawers, has prompted me to paint!
Fabric painting isn't difficult, but does require some practice to achieve the results you want. One of the best tips I have is to take the time to test each colour on a sample piece of fabric before you paint on your main fabric. This gives you the opportunity to adjust any colours that aren't quite the right shade/tone. Remember, the paint always looks lighter once it is dry, so take the time to blowdry the sample!
Once you have your colours mixed, mist your fabric all over so it is evenly damp, and then paint beginning with the lightest colour first. Don't be afraid to leave a few white spots so the paint can travel across the fabric and blend with the next colour. This is where the magic happens!
